YF Apartment,

Florentin Loft: Maximizing a Historic Footprint

75m² Apartment Renovation. concept

Located in a historic 1930s building in the heart of Florentin, Tel Aviv, this apartment was originally a dark, compartmentalized two-bedroom unit. A young family of four came to us with a bold vision: they wanted a modern, loft-style open plan without sacrificing the privacy of two defined bedrooms. The architectural constraints were significant: most windows faced the front of the building, and the building was undergoing a conservation and reinforcement process, which introduced new, bulky support columns into the living space.

We began by deconstructing the original layout entirely, removing every internal partition to reveal a blank canvas. To achieve a "lofty" feel in a limited space, we moved away from traditional walls.

  • Carpentry as Architecture: Instead of thick concrete walls, we used bespoke cabinetry to define the boundaries between the living area and the bedrooms. This allowed us to reclaim valuable centimeters and integrate massive amounts of hidden storage.

  • Optimizing Light: By minimizing corridors and widening transitions, we allowed the Tel Aviv sun to penetrate deep into the apartment, ensuring every corner feels airy and expansive.

After some back and forth we have arrived at a layout that completely deconstructs the original planning, while still keeps two separate, well defined bedrooms using bespoke carpentry.

The YF Apartment is an exercise in small-space urban living. It successfully balances the raw, open energy of a Florentin loft with the practical needs of a growing family. Through meticulous planning and high-end custom carpentry, we proved that you don't need a massive floorplan to live a "large" life. The result is a home that feels open, light-filled, and perfectly tailored to the vibrant neighborhood it inhabits.
